Secretary of State for Youth and Sport

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sport[pt] depends on the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports reports to the Deputy Minister to the Prime-Minister. This Secretary of State develops a government[pt] policy that strongly bets on youth, based in three different bodies: Movijovem, that promotes mobility actions in its social scope through the management of Youth Hostels[pt] and the Youth Card[pt]; FDTI[pt] (Foundation for Dissemination of Information Technologies) that implements science-technical knowledge in the field of the Information Technologies and IPJ [pt] (Portuguese Youth Institute) that complots measures adopted by government in the scope of Youth Policy promoting /supporting the participation of youngsters in different fields of society.

Youth councils

Conselho Nacional da Juventude

The Council main purposes are:

  • To establish a dialogue platform and an interchange forum of different points of view for organizations and youth councils;
  • To ponder youth desires by promoting debates and open discussions about their goals
  • To contribute to the creation and development of youth associations
  • To stand up as a partner before political powers and to claim the right to be consulted on every matter concerning Portuguese youth in general
  • To cooperate with civil services providing studies, advices and information, on his own or on request
  • To promote dialogue between youth organizations
  • To support, technically and scientifically youth organizations and youth regional councils
  • To promote dialogue and exchange with similar foreign organizations
  • To publish and to support youth works diffusion

National Programmes on youth

IPJ programmes are aimed at young people aged between 12 to 30 years old, to youth associations and similar ones, student associations and youth non formal groups.
